Welcome to The Orchard

A place for children and families to connect with nature and each other. At the Orchard children have time and space to

EXPLORE

CREATE

PLAY

LEARN.

The Orchard is a self-directed learning center on a four acre property that hosts over 100 fruit trees (apples, pears, and plums), blueberries, black berries, and grapes. There is a farm pond to explore-perfect for catching fish and frogs.

At the Orchard, we learn in different ways, using many skills that help us expand and grow.

*Critical Thinking

*Creativity

*Collaboration

*Communication

“Scientists have recently determined that it takes approximately 400 repetitions to create a new synapse in the brain- unless it is done with play, in which case, it takes between 10-20 repetitions.”

- Dr. Karyn Purvis.

Local school groups visits The Orchard on Mondays. Children engage in self-directed learning opportunities.

Outside winter offerings include, but are not limited to sliding, tree climbing, cardboard building, orchard exploration, nature crafts, and snow sports. The offerings encourage self-directed learning and engage children in critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication.

The Orchard welcomes homeschool families participating in unconventional learning.

The Orchard aims to provide learning opportunities beyond the public school. We want to be responsive to the needs in the region and beyond.
